Funerals
by Geoffrey Watts

Funerals, funerals, black folks and funerals...
Funerals, funerals, black folks and funerals...
Some slowly embalm themselves with drugs and alcohol
Before their curtain call;
Numbing themselves instead of loving themselves enough to
Prepare for their abrupt
Removal from this earth (never thinking they will be first).
The not so wealthy
Think they will live forever.
Yet so many times when death strikes they are never
Financially prepared to leave this world.
All the mess they left begins to unfurl.
Once they decease and rest in peace,
Nobody else does.... The family has to rally together
For those folk who die broke just to show coterie love.
When death occurs, the drama begins
Fighting over whom left whom what never ends between the kin.
Hurt feelings over infighting sometimes never mends.
Covetousness surfaces to create sin.
No one wins in death unless the soul is saved
AND THE INSURANCE IS PAID!
